Julia and Jess rock

I recently won a giveaway that Jess over at the Elven Garden was hosting.  You can check out her site here.
The giveaway was being sponsored by Julie from the Intrepid Thread.  What a generous and talented lady she is.  Love the bundle of pure joy she sent me. You can check out her site here.
She is currently having a few giveaways to celebrate her 500th post that you will not want to miss out on.  My win was 10 fat quarters of the new line from Art Gallery Fabrics called "Rhapsodia"  It was right before Quilt Market and Julie let me know that one of the fabrics had sold out so she would ship it to me after Quilt Market so I could get them all and she would throw in a few solids and elements to make it up to me.  Well it arrived yesterday and all I can say is "Woo Hoo".  If I was a leprechaun I would be jumping up and clicking my heels in mid air like I just got a Pot of Gold!  Because I feel like that is just what my mailman brought me when the package from Julie arrived.  She sent not 10, not 15, but 20 fat quarters and they are supremely GORGEOUS!!!  Thank you SO much Jess and Julie. Check out all this fabulous fabric:

My First Giveaway

Lots of good stuff happening here.  But before I get to the giveaway, I want to share what I've been up to this week.  We have been dealing with an over abundance of frogs for the past year.  Before I go any farther with this story rest  assured I am not going to be giving frogs away to any of you. My 3 year old grand-daughter convinced us to let the tadpoles in our pond live last year and to not to clean the pond out as is our usual spring ritual.  Big mistake.  This year instead of two frogs croaking in our backyard, we have had a deafening symphony of frogs ALL night long, every night.  This week we decided to do something about it. In all, we have rounded up 29 frogs and relocated them to a pond eight miles away :) Here is a picture of where we found them all and their release to their new home. We use to have a pond in the corner where the  big rocks are now.  The frogs loved hiding in the  rocks and the flowers.  To celebrate a semi-peaceful nights sleep (there is still at least two frogs hiding in there somewhere) and the fact that I now have ten followers,Woot woot, I am going to be having a giveaway.  I started this blog as a way to motivate me to finish some WIP's that I've had laying around for years.  Instead I am constantly seeing someone doing something I just have to try and my projects sit untouched.  I figure one of you may want to adopt my abandoned project and give it the love and finishing touches it deserves.  If you would like to win the quilt top in the picture shown here just leave me a comment on this post telling me you would like to have it and I will post the winner chosen by Mr. Random Generator here on June 7th.  This quilt top is currently 42-1/2" by 48".  I made it about 7 years ago.  For a second chance to win just leave a comment letting me know you are a follower of my blog.  Please be sure to leave me a way to contact you if you are a no reply blogger.  Good Luck!!!

Yeah Good Luck has come my way lately
I recently won a free book from Lynn @ KS DesignGirls.  She was offering a few different items and one of them was a book I saw a few years back but never picked up a copy.   I am so glad to have won a copy from her.  Thank You so much Lynn!!!  Here is a look at my lucky loot and of course, I had to make a cookie right away from the book.  I chose to start with the Oregon Trail Peanut Butter Cookies.  How could I not when I live so close to the Oregon Trail myself.  I must report they are simply the best peanut butter cookies I have ever made or even had before.  A couple of the  patterns in the book are actually ones I've seen in quilt magazines in the past and they are ones I've earmarked to make someday.  The one I especially would like to make is the climbing rose quilt ( which to me are obviously tulips---go figure ). I suppose they could be rosebuds but I think of them as tulips.  Alas there are too many quilts on my bucket list and so little time....
This win was quickly followed by another soon afterward and as soon as I receive it I will  share with you my good fortune.  Let us just say I think a swoon quilt is in my near future. I am going to have to start pondering what I can put together soon as a giveaway myself to spread the love. xxoo

In closing I want to share a quote from my work week.  Each morning the computer gives us an inspirational quote and this one just fit my quilt life to a tee.

"For anything worth having one must pay the price; and the price is always work, patience, love, self-sacrifice"
                                                                     --- John Burrough

I immediately thought of all the love and work that goes into a project that I graciously give away as gifts to love ones.  But I also want to thank all of my fellow blogger friends who so graciously give of themselves and of their time and resources.  Thanks!!!

Bird Quilt

This quilt has been a WIP for way too long.  I had to have started it over six years ago.  I saw the finished quilt in the back of the Mar/Apr '05 Quiltmaker magazine.  It was a finished quilt that was featured in the back of the magazine.  A reader had made it , but the pattern wasn't with it---most likely it had been in an issue sometime before that.  So I roughly drew out birds utilizing half square triangles and colored them in on graph paper.  Where the beaks or colored wings sections are I figured I could just treat it like paper piecing and build the colors I needed my triangles to be and built my square from that.  At the time I hadn't given machine quilting the top a try so I let my cousin hand quilt it.  She was to give it back to me and I would bind it and it would be hers to keep.  I hate to admit it but she has had it back in my hands for over three years.  Oops.  Where has all that time gone?  Some of it I just couldn't find the right fabric to bind it with or so the story goes.  Have you been there?  I will see her in a few weeks and can't wait to surprise her with the finished quilt.

I've been busy working on multiple projects.  I started some quilt blocks from the garden steps series that I have the button for on my sidebar.  I've made 10 blocks so far and will share them soon after I make a few more.   I still need to embroider them.   Jennie is sharing a pattern each month to embroider in the center of the blocks.   I'm sure I can't keep up with her and have some catching up to do but they are delightful.   Check out what she is doing by clicking on the Garden Steps button.

Enjoy your week and keep stitchin',
Hugs
